Having earlier shown you a leaked image of the all-new 2014 Mazda3 Sedan, we now present you with official pictures of the stylish compact sedan.
Like the equally stylish hatchback (check it out here), the new four-door is graced with Mazda’s KODO design language, which does away with the comical front grille design of the previous model and replaces it with an edgier, more athletic-looking piece. The sharps lines and creases found around the car also lend to its sporty appearance, as do the piercing front lights and stylized taillights. Its distinguishing feature, the short trunk, gives it the trademark notchback look of its predecessors.
Inside, the sedan is virtually identical to the five-door, featuring a simple yet high-quality cockpit that looks to have been inspired by those from BMW and Audi. It exudes a sportier vibe than ever before.
The engine lineup carries over from the hatch. In Europe, buyers will have the choice of three SkyActive gasoline units — a 1.5-liter with 99 horsepower (100 PS), a 2.0-liter making 118 hp (120 PS) and a 2.0-liter rated at 163 hp (165 PS) — and one SkyActive 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel producing 148 hp (150 PS). A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while six-speed automatic is optional. Both drive the front wheels.
In North America, the lineup will initially consist of a base SkyActive 2.0-liter unit producing 155 hp and a more powerful 2.5-liter unit with 184 hp. A variant of the European turbodiesel may eventually be offered.
The 2014 Mazda3 sedan will go on sale near the end of 2013.
